Sappi Careers Durban – Softwood Attendant

Job Description:

Sappi Ngodwana Mill requires a  Softwood Screening Attendant to assist the Softwood Operator in controlling the feeding and screening of softwood and hardwood chips to the digesters at the required rate with no chip supply interruptions. This role reports to the Shift Superintendent.

Job Responsibilities:

• Coach and train new SW Screening Attendant
• Assist with the start-up and shut down of the plant
• Minimize environmental impact
• Perform housekeeping with the team – focus on the area of responsibility.
• Report unsafe conditions
• Communicate with Maintenance employees with regards to maintenance work
• Act in a higher position if necessary, once licensed
• Isolate plant as required (Authorized Operator)
• Take samples for testing as per BOP
• Understand and comply with the SHEQ requirements of the position
• Eliminate chips and or bark within the stormwater drain system
• Perform routine inspections and cleaning, and report defects as necessary
• BBS targets reached and maintained
• Complete checklist during plant walkabout
• Communicate with Shift Superintendent with regards to abnormal conditions and breakdowns
• Achieve 5S status in the area of responsibility
• Identify abnormal / emergency plant conditions and take corrective actions according to the standard
• Assist with removal of blockages

Qualification & Experience:

• 06 months experience in a Production Environment
• Matric (Maths and Science) / N3 Pulp and Paper
