Reporting to the Unit Manger and the coordinator for the Neurophysiology Lab, the EEG Technologist I is responsible for performing standard neurophysiology tests on children, including routine EEG. The technologist works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary health care team, utilizing the principles of family centered care, to meet the diagnostic needs of this patient population. You will receive guidance, mentoring, & leadership appropriate to your level of experience from senior staff members. As part of the Neurophysiology team you will have opportunity to participate in ongoing educational sessions related to your discipline and be supported in developing skills in other areas of the technology field.
As an Electroneurophysiology (EEG) Technologist, you will perform appropriate tests on all age groups, utilizing a variety of electrode application methods and explain testing procedures to clients/patients and family. You will observe physical changes in the patient during testing, prepare results and/or interprets findings for/with physician. You will prepare, update and maintain patient records. You will ensure proper operation of equipment by performing maintenance, calibration, cleaning and detect any equipment malfunction, make minor repairs or report the need for major repairs to the appropriate person. You will inform the physician of urgent examination results and resolve unusual or complex cases or refers concerns to the appropriate individual(s).
- Physical abilities: prolonged sitting/standing, pushing/pulling of equipment, assisting with patient transfers, sustained awkward postures involved in day to day work activities.
Qualification & Experience:
- Qualified to complete or completion of Canadian Board of Registered EEG Technologists examination.
- Graduation from a formal Electrophysiology Program or successful completion of a recognized in house training program.
- Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT).
- Current BLS.
