Job Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Job Responsibilities:

The Health Care Aide’s responsibilities include providing basic Nursing care to residents as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or following CCHSS, resident care plans and AHS policies, and procedures. Assists in providing a clean and safe environment. Monitors resident progress and reports relevant information to the Registered Nurse promptly. Monitors and participates in RAI MDS resident tracking, care plan development and implementation as directed. Following demonstration of competence, the HCA is responsible for providing restricted activities deemed appropriate by the organization based on the resident/patient condition and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Responsible for maintaining accurate, concise documentation that meets organizational legislative, and legal requirements

Qualification & Experience:

  • Current BLS. Supportive Pathways Certificate.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Long Term Care or Supportive living experience preferred. Familiarity with Continuing Care Health Service Standards. Experience caring for patients with Dementia. NVCI training.
  • Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
